Liz Unna

Liz grew up between Santa Fe and Brussels, went to university in Montreal, moved to Rome for a few years and now lives in London.

She cut her teeth in the Creative Services department of Discovery Channel. She moved to Channel 4 as Creative Director of FilmFour, and subsequently of More4 when it launched, overseeing all of its on-air identity and scooping several D&AD awards along the way. She has since directed several documentaries, including an hour-long film about Raymond Briggs for Channel 4.

She directs commercials and short films for numerous clients in Europe and the US, including Samsung, American Airlines, M&S, Age UK, the NSPCC, Google, Dove, Microsoft and Volkswagen. The Unquiet Film Series for The Times and Sunday Times saw her win two D&AD pencils, several British Arrows, a two Cannes Lions. She also won Shots Gold Branded Content of they Year two years running, in 2014 and 2015, for her films on Christina Lamb and then on the Art of Satire. Her films for Age UK, featuring Miriam Margolyes and James Bolam picked up a few Cannes Lions. 

She is currently making a feature documentary about independent watchmakers and our relationship with time, as well as developing a feature script which explores the tender awful time in a young girl’s life when she emerges into adulthood. Throughout her career, she has aimed to choose work that honours women’s stories.
