Bio

Emily Freda Sharp

Born and raised in North West London via a brief stint in Spain, Emily is now based on the other side of the world… aka south of the river.

After acquiring the nickname Ross from Friends, her youthful dreams of being a palaeontologist u-turned towards the arts. Performances at Sadler’s Wells and The Royal Albert Hall kept her busy growing up but it was at 15, in the wake of her Dad’s passing, that she stepped onto the set of Harry Potter and found solace in the magic of filmmaking.

Leaving school at 18 she started out as a runner and subsequently AD, before realising that the creative roles on set felt out of reach. So whilst London celebrated the Olympics, Facebook purchased Instagram, and YouTube ran its first OOH billboard campaign, she turned to social media to experiment.

In time Emily joined the advertising industry, putting her name to the first social-led campaign to win a Cannes Lion - The United Nations’ ‘People’s Seat’. But it was in 2021 that she curled her toes over the cliff edge and stepped into the world of commercial directing.

Having found so much joy amongst the crew on Potter, Emily prides herself on the collaborative environment that she nurtures on set. Born with a limb difference, she regularly supports brands to think creatively when it comes to casting, and her portfolio speaks for itself as to the importance she places on inclusive representation both in front and behind the camera.

With a sentimentality for the creativity of childhood, she often jokes that if she’s not making a Spice Girls reference then she’s not doing her job! Whether it’s a client brief or creative stimulus, she strives to create playful work that doesn’t compromise on meaning, working to imbue her films with a magical energy that leaps off the screen and begs you to jump in.
