‘Waking up in Birmingham’ directed by Peter Franklyn Banks wins Grand Prix, at the Kinsale Shark Awards.

In the lead up to the Rugby League World Cup, Peter Franklyn Banks documented the harrowing story of soldier-turned-athlete James Simpson, for Reign Body Fuel. In 2009 Simpson suffered life-changing injuries whilst serving in Afghanistan and defied the odds of survival. Sharing the chilling details in a first-person retelling, Simpson is undefined by the moment that took away the life he knew before and finds an innate strength amongst the adversities. Inspired by his newfound adoration for Wheelchair Rugby League, Simpson reminisces about the sport that has helped him rediscover his purpose, and take him on a new life journey, as England’s Team Captain.
